System Requirements

S2S Systems, LLC has developed a truely unique suite of application functionality based on a state-of-the-art framework. Our focus is to maximize the market for our products by developing code that will run on virtual any system. The following tables detail the minimum system requirements to efficiently run the S2S Systems software.

S2S is almost entirely a Java application. Therefore, a Java runtime environment must exist on the target machine. Please follow the link to determine which Java version is currently supported and where it can be acquired.

S2S is a graphics intensive application and therefore requires a minimal graphics capability. Any graphics adapter must be OpenGL capable and have dedicated graphcis memory, not shared memory.

A system configuration tool is available for NVIDIA based graphics which can be useful for configuring the optimal system.

S2S was designed to operate on relatively low-end systems. However, a recommended minimum system configuration is provided. The software may operate adaquately in certain cases on lesser systems, but we do not recommend them and therefore do not support them.
   

 

Java Runtime

 

S2S currently offers pre-packaged downloads for model construction and 3D seismic analysis. Additionally, we provide a custom download capability where custom software development projects based on the S2S architecture are accessed by specific clients. Since everything in S2S is written in Java, with the exception of the lowest level graphics, a Java Runtime Environment is required in order to run any of our applications. We are currently requiring a minimum Java Environment of 1.5. The current Java runtime environment can be downloaded using the adjacent link.

 

Graphics

 

S2S uses an OpenGL based graphics library which is C++ based. This is the only non-Java portion of the system and is required in order to provide our users with the fastest graphics capabilities available. The high level graphics functionality assumes that the target platform fully supports OpenGL. While most scientific based systems will support OpenGL and therefore will run S2S applications, it is recommended that you either consult with S2S Personnel prior to making a purchase, download and try the software to see if your target platform is adaquate or download an OpenGL based graphics evaluation tool and verify that it runs.

Preferred Graphics Adapters:

NVIDIA GeForce - Available on PC Cards and on high-end laptops

ATI 7500 or 9000 - Available on PC Cards and on high-end laptops.

*** Warning - With the ATI Cards and possibly others, the graphics accelleration will need to reduced by two levels in order for the S2S graphics to function properly. This can be accomplished by entering Display Properties and pressing the Advanced Button on the Settings Tab. Then select the Troubleshooting Tab and decrease the Graphics Acceleration slider value by two steps.

S2S is a graphics and computationally intensive software application that requires the following minimum configuration to operate adaquately:

  • 256 Mbytes RAM
  • 5 Gbytes Available Disk Space (for data files and working area)
  • OpenGL Capable Graphics Chip or Adapter (NVDIA or ATI recommended)
  • 1024x1280 Resolution Display

Minimum Recommended Configuration

    • 2.0+ Ghz Pentium III Processor
    • 1.0 Gbytes RAM
    • 10 Gbytes Available Disk Space (for data files and working area)
    • NVIDIA or ATI Graphics Chip or Adapter with 64 Mbytes Video Memory
    • 1024x1280 Resolution Display

This minimum supported and recommended configuration can be found on virtual any personal computer available. The average costs for a laptop with the minimum recommended configuration is less than $3000 USD.
